Assign charts to products and catalog rules
Connect published charts to exact products or broader catalog rules and understand which rule wins.On this page
Assignments decide which chart a storefront product receives. They are separate from chart content: editing a table changes the chart, while editing an assignment changes where that chart applies.
Assignment targets#
Radiant supports six target types:
- Product
- Collection
- Product type
- Vendor / Brand
- Tag
- Entire site
Use the narrowest rule that expresses the catalog decision. Exact products are useful for exceptions. Collections and catalog attributes are useful for repeatable coverage. Entire site is a fallback, not a substitute for reviewing product differences.
Rule priority#
When more than one rule matches a product, Radiant resolves them in this order:
Product > Collection > Product type > Vendor > Tag > Entire site
The more specific match wins. For example, an exact Product assignment can override a Collection assignment, and a Collection assignment can override an Entire site fallback.
Link from a chart#
Open a chart and use Link to connect it to catalog targets. In the linking flow, selections and removals are saved as you make them. Done closes the flow; it is not a second save step.
Before closing, review the selected targets and check that the chart is in the state you expect. A Draft chart can be linked for preparation, but the live storefront requires an eligible Published chart.
Manage coverage from Assignments#
Open Assignments to review catalog connections across charts. The page helps separate:
- exact product coverage;
- reusable collection or attribute rules;
- global fallback coverage;
- gaps where no suitable chart resolves;
- overlaps that depend on priority.
Use Link size chart to connect an existing chart, Create size chart when the right content does not yet exist, and Set global size chart only when one chart genuinely fits the remaining catalog.
A practical rule strategy#
For a mixed apparel catalog:
- create accurate charts for major product families;
- assign those charts to collections or product types;
- add exact Product exceptions for unusual fits;
- use Vendor or Tag rules only when those attributes are managed consistently;
- add an Entire site rule only when the fallback is safe.
This structure keeps the rule set understandable as the catalog grows.
Verify an assignment#
Choose a published product that should match the rule, then check:
- the resolved chart title and table are correct;
- the product is published to the sales channel being tested;
- the theme placement is active;
- a more specific rule is not overriding the intended rule;
- Smart Selector behavior matches that chart’s eligibility.
Then test one product that should not match. Negative testing catches broad rules and unexpected tags faster than reviewing the rule list alone.
When a product shows the wrong chart#
Work from most specific to least specific:
- inspect an exact Product rule;
- inspect matching Collections;
- inspect Product type;
- inspect Vendor;
- inspect Tags;
- inspect the Entire site fallback.
Do not edit the chart measurements to solve a routing problem. Correct the assignment that is winning.
